Our New MUGA Pitch
Our long awaited MUGA (multi Use Games Area) is now in use!!
The journey to get here started back in the Spring term of 2021 at a time when the world was coming out of a historic moment: Covid. The days of lockdowns, furlough and home learning were part of the normal conversations, so we started to change the narrative and make plans to find enough money to pay for a sports surface that would put the school firmly on the map in the wider community and confirm an already secure place as a great school within Hampshire.
Over the last 40 years, The King’s School has many stories of God's provision and the MUGA is one more to add to the collection. There have been many twists and turns to this journey, with dates being moved back and the price reaching total costs that will make your eyes water, but the real story is one of heroic school community effort and of heavenly provision.
Just as the Bible teaches us in Hebrews 13:16: “do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased” so the school community did exactly that. With sacrifice, energy and sheer brilliance from the pupils, families and staff of The King’s School, we raised money with an eclectic mix of challenges. One family cycled virtually from John O'Groats to Land's End, others spinned for 24 hours in their living room. A family ran 10K every day and another swam across The English Channel! There were so many sporting challenges: we ran, cycled, played football, skipped, walked, space hopped and scooted our way to raise money. However it wasn't all about sport. Creative skills were also used with exquisite violin recitals, cards and cakes being made, crochet and even slime making got in on the fundraising action too! While others challenged themselves in different ways like eating on a £1 budget each day for a week, a sponsored silence from the Year 10 girls made for a quiet day for the teachers! We used the opportunity to help the surrounding community with litter picking and a spot of gardening and cleaning grandparents cars were also ways to raise funds!
During the school days Primary pupils did a fun run with all ages clocking up many kilometres. The teachers even got involved with the challenge of The Boat Race just like the Cambridge & Oxford boat race, but with less water, wind and crowds….it was done virtually in the school hall with departments in teams competing against each other. It was a close competition with great dedication, but the PE Department came out on top!
Looking through the list of challenges and the amounts that each one raised is incredible. Every step of the way God has guided and provided; with the sacrifice of the pupils and their families, dedication and time from staff, favour with companies and also with monetary gifts; one off payments, as well as standing orders. Each one is a gift from God that we celebrate. We raised £60,000 as a community and we trust that as we keep Jesus at the centre of all that we do He will provide the rest for the bank loans that were needed and the next faith adventure of a Primary building.
