Senior enrichment

Enrichment activities are an integral part of the life of The King’s School, providing pupils with opportunities to enhance their personal development, extend their learning experience beyond the classroom and into the wider community and develop expertise in areas beyond the formal curriculum. Enrichment activities include visiting speakers, theatre visits, lunchtime and after school clubs, trips and sporting activities. These opportunities enable pupils to have fun together, cultivate great friendships, make enduring memories, and learn many important life skills.

Some of the activities which senior pupils have enjoyed have included watersports, trips to Paulton’s Park and Thorpe Park as well as in house enrichment days where pupils are able to develop their skills in a chosen area of interest such as cookery, textiles or drama. Theatre trips are part of the curriculum for GCSE Drama and pupils are encouraged to attend theatre performances of English Literature set texts. The English Department also runs a debating club, competing successfully against other schools. Other departments run subject specific trips throughout the year such as Geography field trips and History trips to London.

Sports Clubs, Competitions and Fixtures

Our new multi use games area (MUGA) enables pupils to participate in a wide range of sporting activities. Throughout the year,  the P.E. department organises a variety of after school sporting clubs including football, netball, tennis and athletics. Pupils have the opportunity to compete against other schools both home and away.

Music and Drama Clubs

The Music and Drama Departments regularly organise a range of extra-curricular opportunities for pupils to participate in various activities including school productions and national events. Over the years they have included Rock Challenge, Young Voices, The Southampton Music Festival and whole school productions such as The Man who Was Magic, Wendy and Peter Pan. and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

GCSE Booster Classes

Every year teachers run after school booster classes which are open to pupils keen to supplement their studies and better prepare for the GCSE examinations.

Skiing

The school runs a bi-annual ski trip, usually to France or Italy, which is open to pupils in Years 8 to 11. Pupils who have not skied before, or who need a refresher course, will have the opportunity to have lessons at the Alpine Centre, Southampton.

Work experience

In the Summer Term Year 10 pupils participate in an internal work experience programme, run by the school, providing pupils with the opportunity of developing marketing, budgeting and presentational skills within a team environment. They engage in activities which are designed to help them learn about the world of work, develop practical and interpersonal skills and grow in confidence. Pupils  benefit from taking on new roles and responsibilities and also find direction on future college and career choices.

"Anyone considering The King’s School for their children, will be making the best decision they have ever made for their academic, spiritual, emotional and social growth. Both my children attended the school and I have no doubt that the environment and staff played a key role in their development to encounter and thrive in the world."

Mrs Pole

"My son joined The King’s School in Year 2. The teachers, right from the start, identified his needs and made recommendations to assist him – provided us with guidance and support throughout, which made such a huge difference to my son who needed both behavioural and educational support"

Mrs Hamilton

"We've been part of The King’s School family for 7 years. We've seen our children grow in stature, maturity and their own personal faith. At no other school will you ever be given a prophetic word or verse of Scripture for your child! They're loved, cherished and valued by ALL the staff as if they were their own children."

Mrs Boxall

"The King’s School has been a huge blessing to us and our children. They love learning here, they love the teachers, they love the atmosphere. We’d recommend it to anyone."

Mr Hicks

"The King’s School's been an amazing experience for not only our children, but for our entire family. The school welcomed our family when we moved to the area, other parents and children were incredibly supportive and kind, and we instantly felt at home."

Mrs Shergill

"The King’s School is beautiful, inside and out! Every day our daughter learns so much more than just phonics and maths, she learns who she is and what she can do as an individual, and this school not only allows her to do this but encourages and supports her in every aspect."

Mrs Price

"The King's School is incredible. The staff are amazing and really care about & know all the children so well. Our girls have come on in leaps & bounds since joining. We love the atmosphere and the whole ethos. Couldn't imagine them being anywhere else now. "

Mrs Mullane

"Fantastic School. I have 1 in senior in his last year, and 2 in primary. The communication between staff and parents is very good. The kindness shown by staff throughout the primary school clearly inspires the pupils to emulate this towards each other. Highly Recommended."
