The GCSE History option class recently stepped back in time to experience the drama, power struggles, and daring adventures of Elizabethan England. Travelling to London for the day, the trip was a deep dive exploration of the reign of Elizabeth I, delving into the religious turmoil, rebellions, and exploration that defined her era.
What We Experienced
1. Tower of London
Pupils walked the same halls as Elizabethan prisoners and explored how Elizabeth I maintained her grip on power. The group had the opportunity to step into the State Rooms, offering a glimpse of the grand lifestyles of the era. This iconic fortress provided unique insights into the lives of the people who played pivotal roles during this fascinating period in history.
2. Golden Hinde
Next, they boarded Sir Francis Drake’s legendary ship, experiencing the thrills of exploration firsthand. The Golden Hinde offered a captivating look into the adventurous world of Elizabethan seafarers. During our visit, we participated in an interactive Spanish Armada workshop, where pupils attempted to outmanoeuvre the enemy like Drake himself.
This trip was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to immerse themselves in Elizabethan history, bringing the past to life and providing a deeper understanding of Elizabeth I's reign to support their in class learning. We hope everyone enjoyed this incredible experience.
