A Host of Events During British Science Week
During British Science Week, The King's School celebrated with a variety of exciting events for both Primary and Senior pupils, organised with particular enthusiasm by our Year 9 pupils.
Year 9 Pupils Hosted Primary Microscope Workshop
Year 9 pupils were particularly keen to ensure a love of Science was embedded with our younger pupils. On Friday 13th March, they welcomed Year 5 pupils to the senior science labs, where they hosted and taught their primary peers about the use and wonders of microscopes. They also made a slideshow which was sent home to parents to let them know about all the science activities they had planned.

Senior Science Fayre Competition
Budding scientists took the opportunity to carry out experiments in their kitchens and back gardens, exploring questions like: What happens when you mix baking soda and lemonade? Can you make slime with ketchup? What recipe creates the biggest bubbles? Mrs Hall awarded prizes and House points for planning, scientific working, analysis and creativity.
University of Southampton - Neuroscience Day
On Tuesday morning, two neuroscientists from the University of Southampton visited the school to talk to Years 5, 6 and 7. They ran workshops about how our brains work, how we learn things and shared information about neurodiversity.
Senior Baking Science Competition
Senior pupils baked scientific-themed goodies at home and brought them into school for judging in Mrs Hall's room (L35). Entries were submitted by Wednesday 11th March, with prizes and House Points awarded to the winning entries.
Primary Junk Modelling
In line with Science topics on Animals and Life Cycles, Primary pupils created their own recycled animals from junk at home. They showed off their entries during Primary Assembly on Friday 13th March, where Year 9 pupils judged the creations. Prizes and House points were awarded in the following Monday's Primary assembly.

The week was a wonderful celebration of science across the school, with pupils demonstrating creativity, scientific thinking and enthusiasm for learning. A special thank you to Mrs Hall for all her hard work putting these activities together and to Mrs Sneller for liaising with the University of Southampton.
